NDIS Services –
Therapy & Positive Behaviour Support Interventions

At Therapeutic Approach, we celebrate neurodiversity and integrate neurodivergent-affirming practices, combined with trauma-informed and attachment-based frameworks, into our interventions to support the goals, dreams, and aspirations of NDIS participants.

Our mission is to support NDIS participants, families, and statutory agencies supporting children with disabilities to foster independence, achieve their individual dreams, and exercise greater choice and control over how they want to live their lives.

We specialise in:

Comprehensive assessments, the development of positive behaviour support plans, and the implementation of therapeutic care plans. These are designed to proactively and sensitively address complexities related to:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD)
  • Intellectual Developmental Disorder (IDD)
  • Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD)
  • Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) and Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA)
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Dual diagnosis including mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, mood disorders, emerging personality disorders, complex behaviours, trauma, and attachment disruptions.

Our Therapeutic Approach to Embracing Neurodiversity

All behaviours are a form of communication, often indicating unmet needs. Instead of focusing on "fixing" impairments, our neurodiversity-affirming approach recognizes the unique strengths, interests, and support needs of all neurotypes.

Our approach does not involve:

  • Promoting masking, loss of autonomy, or personal agency.
  • Eliminating stimming behaviours.
  • Setting goals aimed at "curing" neurodivergent behaviours.
We integrate multiple neuro-affirming, science-based, and emotionally secure approaches, including:

Dr. Ross Greene's Collaborative & Proactive Solutions

  • Focus on solving problems, not modifying behaviours.
  • Proactive problem solving.
  • Assessment of Lagging Skills & Unsolved Problems.

Ann M. Jenberg and Phyllis Booth's Theraplay

  • Adaptations for neurodiverse participants.
  • Understanding sensory stimulation and connection-seeking behaviours.
  • Sensory regulation and processing.
  • Supporting parents' adjustment and sense of loss.

Dr. Dan Hughes and Dafna Lender's PACE Attitude and Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP)

  • Attachment-focused treatment for emotional security.
  • Turning into attunement.
  • Daring to play.
  • Fostering meaningful change through connection.

Dr. Mona Delahooke and Dr. Caroline Mills' Reframing Behaviour

  • Using brain science and compassion to understand and solve children's behavioural challenges.
  • Emphasizing relational safety and the Polyvagal Theory.
  • Ensuring children feel safe at all times.
  • Addressing sensory processing.
